The Biblical Description of an Atheist

(Psalm 14:1) “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.”

It seems that the ever popular standpoint of modern intellectualism is that of an atheist. Also, this belief system links together with evolution and other ideologies that elevate the necessity of scientific reasoning. For the purpose of this entry we will not discuss the in depth ideas of atheism as well as its links to other scientific ideologies. Rather, we will give a brief outline of atheism’s belief system, it’s flaws, and The Biblical foundation for understanding the “atheist”.

1.) Overview of Atheism-

Atheism is simply “anti-theism”, the opposite of theism. It is theism in the negative connotation “a-theism” that there is no true theology because there is no God. Let’s expand a little further on that from the standpoint of creation. It is the belief that there is no Creator. The atheist cannot piece the reality of living beings and order together. Therefore, we have this reality explained by natural processes or “naturalism”. Naturalism is the philosophy of the common atheist and evolution is their science.

2.) The Flawed Ideology-

Since the philosophy is a naturalistic one and of logical reasoning we should then be able to make “logical” assumptions. It’s logical for us to assume absolutely nothing created everything, right? Perhaps there was matter in the beginning, but that kind of was just floating around in the nothingness of the yet to exist universe. When the matter and atoms inside the nothingness exploded it created perfectly ordered solar systems, the atmosphere, the earth at perfect distance from the sun, living creatures, human beings, trees, flowers, bodies of water, volcanoes, and all the rest. However, the evolutionist will say “halt, it doesn’t work like that.” So, we go back to the Big Bang and look at the process of evolution. Being, a single cell organism migrating its way through a vast number of creatures until it became a human being. There is a vast number of technicalities and Darwinian explanations concerning evolution. Even so, at its base level that is essentially its scientific explanation for life on planet earth. Hence the Biblical name for the atheist is “THE fool” (Psalm 14:1)

3.) The Front and Real Reason for Atheism-

Now, ask yourself, “do I really believe this?” Is it logical or even sane to explain life and mankind by an exploding mess that just accidentally popped out living beings? No sane or logical person goes through an art museum and thinks, “These paintings are spectacular. I’d say an explosion happened and that’s how they came to be.” No one could sanely or intelligibly make a statement of such nonsense. The fundamental aspects of our life show the concept of design and a designer. Nobody would have an issue with attributing apple employees for making iPhones and tablets. Yet, we have major issues when it comes to the logic of “Creation means creator.”

The Scripture shows us clearly that an individual giving a valid case of atheism is impossible. Let’s examine Romans 1:19-22.

“Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,” (Romans 1:19-22). God’s omnipotence is made manifest to the children of disobedience. The invisible God is seen by the clear existence of creation and the reality of the Godhead over all. It is within the hearts and knowledge of all mankind for though we are marred with our corrupt nature of sin, we are made in His image and His likeness. Therefore, atheists are not exclusive from accountability but “without excuse”.

Atheism is simply an exaggerated effort in the imaginations of men’s hearts to remove the weightiness of accountability to The Creator, God. The term “atheist” is actually incorrect. They are self-theists. They serve and worship a god: themselves. The atheist says phrases like “I choose my moral system” and “I’m accountable to me.” They design their own code of ethics, their own doctrines, to satisfy and exalt themselves. Atheists in the proper terminology would be “self worshippers” or “self-theists” which The Scripture says all of humanity is in their lost state. This belief system (because it is a belief) exists to numb and harden the conscious as did the wicked servant in Luke 12. Who said “in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming;” (v.45a) Furthermore it says of him, “and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken;” (v.45b). This wicked servant developed a false theology of a delayed judge in order to satisfy the lusts of his flesh. Atheism is no different. Romans 1:25 says concerning them, “Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.” It isn’t that they can deny the creator. It is that they worship their own selves and creation rather than the Creator. In doing so, they have “changed the truth of God into a lie”.

4.) Prolonging The Inevitable-

Ask yourself this question: “What if I knew a terrible storm was coming?” Well, there are two options. First, you could accept the reality and force of the storm in order to prepare for it. Secondly, you could “attempt” to deny the reality and force of the storm. After all, the thought of a powerful and raging storm meeting your frail body is too frightening to consider. In this second option you could replace the preparation time with playing in the sunshine, tanning in your lawn chair, partying by the sea side, and living it up as though a drop of rain will never touch your skin. Atheism takes the second option. “God wants to take away my sunshine. He wants to halt me right in the middle of my youth and fun.” My friend, ask Jonah if one can run from God. Ask Adam and Eve if it is possible to hide from Him in the garden. Suppose you could ask the hosts of Hell even now if you can run from God. Ecclesiastes 12:14 says, “For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.” Every scientific, atheistic, evolutionist, philosophical platform may reign in the mighty chambers of intellectualism in this liberal era of history. Yet, one day the whole unbelieving world shall be among those that “stand” in Revelation 20. “And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God;” (Revelation 20:12a). Jesus Christ is coming and will not delay. Do not delay friend! Waste not a moment with a trivial thought or wasteful pondering! Flee to the refuge of Jesus Christ! Repent with every facet of your soul and with trembling that all may be found well with you! As a wretched and needy soul, cling to His mighty love placing your faith entirely in His saving power! For He is mighty and willing to save such needy as we!
